A number of websites offer tutorials, support, legal advice and links to free software for citizen journalists. Below are some of them.

KNIGHT DIGITAL MEDIA CENTER

The KMDC website, operated by journalism trainers at the center’s offices at the University of California at Berkeley, offers a variety of free tutorials on everything from producing videos to creating interactive maps. The tutorials and other information on this site are among the best for digital journalism training. The center also sponsors free week-long multimedia boot camps at UC-Berkeley for professional journalists.

KNIGHT CITIZEN NEWS NETWORK

This website features an array of support for citizen journalists and has links to many other valuable web pages. Make sure to check out the center’s Freebies List for links to free software and programs for publishing your content and operating your website.

CITIZEN MEDIA LAW PROJECT

Every digital journalist needs to have a basic understanding of legal issues. This website, at the Berkman Center at Harvard University, is the go-to web page for legal resources.
