The series below was a simple investigation of neighborhoods neglected by the city government in Los Angeles. The video showed the deplorable conditions that existed is some of the poorest communities in L.A. because of refuse that was not collected for weeks. The reaction by the city was swift.

Digital Reporting on Deadline

November 28, 2011

I covered a protest against the Los Angeles Times by hundreds of Los Angeles Unified School District teachers who marched and rallied in front of the newspaper.

The teachers were angered by what they said was unfair reporting in recent articles that used a statistical analysis to compare the performances of thousands of elementary school teachers. The rally started at 5 p.m., which meant my deadlines were very tight. But that wasn’t a problem. I shot and edited a short video, wrote a story and blog post, all of which was done before 7 p.m.
